The Young African Feminist Fund

The African Human Rights Network (AHRN) is a dedicated feminist fund with a profound mission: to empower and support grassroots movements and individual activists from marginalized communities across Africa. Our primary focus is on women and indigenous groups, and our goal is to foster sustainable change by providing vital resources and unwavering support for their advocacy efforts. AHRN places a special emphasis on young feminist women-led initiatives that promote sustainable development, clean energy, natural resource conservation, and sexual reproductive health and education. Furthermore, we prioritize education and awareness programs that highlight the significance of environmental stewardship and our collective responsibility towards the planet.

AHRN envisions a world where every individual has equal access to a healthy environment, sexual reproductive health, education, and a sustainable future. To achieve this ambitious vision, we have established three main objectives:

  1. Empowering Young Feminist Movements: AHRN is committed to empowering and supporting young feminist movements throughout Africa. We believe in nurturing the voices of those who will shape the future, and we strive to create opportunities for them to thrive.
  2. Creating a Vibrant Activist Community: We endeavor to foster a vibrant community of young activists by providing platforms for them to connect and grow. Our guidance extends to land rights and environmental defenders, offering support that is crucial in their endeavors.
  3. Grassroots Empowerment: AHRN’s funding approach is centered on grassroots feminist organizations that are both led by and serve marginalized communities. We prioritize organizations that address the specific needs and challenges faced by these communities. We engage with the organizations we fund through consultation, feedback, and support for their self-determined goals and priorities. Feedback and constructive criticism are actively sought to continually enhance our funding practices and policies.
